Easy Natural Remedies

Herbal and natural remedies have been around as long as humans have been on Earth. Even today many modern pharmaceuticals are based on traditional plant remedies. An example is Asprin which is synthesized Willow Bark, long used for headaches, fever and pain. Below are a few natural remedies which are easy to use and obtain. These are just for minor ailments and do not replace going to see your doctor, but you may find that a soothing tea fixes your headache without artificial medications, which is always good.

Stress Chamomile Tea is a good soother for nervous stress, just sit and sip slowly and you will soon relax

Oats are excellent for nerves and stress issues, including feeling down. A bowl of porridge in the morning may help you to boost your resistance to stress.

Soaking in a warm bath with Rosemary, Rose or Lavender Oil (or all three) is very relaxing and uplifting to the spirits and mind.

Headaches These are often caused by tension so mixing a few drops of Lavender Oil into some cool water, Then soak a cloth and wring it out and place on your forehead while you lay down and relax. Very soothing.

You can also rub a couple of drops of Lavender Oil into your wrists and/or temples.

An old recipe is a Ginger foot bath. Take some Root Ginger and grate it into a large bowl of warm water. Put your feet in the water and relax for 15 minutes. You can also use mustard powder instead of the Ginger for the same effect. Bites and Stings Lavender oil and Aloe Vera juice can be applied directly to the sting. For the Aloe, just split a leaf and squeeze the gel where you need it.

A slice of raw onion placed directly on a sting or bite will soothe the pain and swelling. Indigestion Peppermint Tea is the best cure of all. You can use the herbal tea bags from the supermarket or just grow a pot of peppermint on your balcony or garden.

Lemon Balm is also a useful herb to make a tea out of and it grows very easily.

Fennel seed tea is good for indigestion and for bloating too.

Head lice The best remedy I found for this when my children were at school was to get a cup of cheap no-name conditioner and add a half teaspoon of Lavender Oil and Tea Tree Oil to it. Mix together and rub through the hair thoroughly. Leave for 15-20 minutes, comb through and wash out. Comb through hair and remove all nits and lice, which will be dead. Repeat after 7 days with regular combing and checking each day to make sure they don’t come back!
